Off the Mainstream is a sole
proprietorship owned by myself. I operate the business from my
home in central Kentucky. I built this site myself with
Microsoft FrontPage™ 2002. I personally choose the products that
are sold on this site. It is my goal to offer a high quality
product at an affordable price. Please
contact me with
any questions or comments.
I am a wife of more than 20 years. I
have three sons (two teenage boys still at home; one all
grown up and living elsewhere) and a three-year-old grandson. Through the years, I have tried
to tone down the testosterone in my home with soft,
feminine decor. My wall decor consists mostly of paintings with
a floral theme. (I love flowers.) Most are accented by sconces with
glass globes, shelves with figurines, or floral arrangements.
The men have tried to muscle in occasionally. (I do have a
framed UK poster on one wall. That was a fight I could not win.)
Overall, the guys tolerate my home decor choices relatively
well; but my home decor choices do not tolerate the guys so
well.
Most of the figurines in my house
are glued together; some are missing pieces (my grandson is
determined to finish off the porcelain basset hound with the
missing ear). Once, I risked a glass-top shelf with a porcelain
figurine over the headboard of my bed. (No one informed me that the boys had
outgrown twin-size wrestling matches and now needed a queen-size
ring. I need to know these things!)
My eldest son had water
trouble at his place and came over to take a shower. He used the
boys' bathroom. His comment afterward: "I could feel the
testosterone draining from my body in there."
(Mission accomplished!) He almost destroyed my "frilly"
shower curtains trying to get out. (Do you know how long it
took to find that color!)
Anyway, I continue to maintain my
soft, feminine atmosphere, replacing pieces as they are
destroyed. It is something I enjoy....looking for just the right
piece to start or finish a "wall grouping". It helps me keep my
sanity in my male-dominated world.
Thank you for stopping by!
